SAULT. STE. MARIE — It was Round IV of the Sam vs. Food challenge this past weekend as ABC 10’s Sam Ali took his talents to Michigan’s first city, Sault Ste. Marie, to take on the famous whitefish from Lockview Restaurant.

The challenge was to eat six different pieces of whitefish, which were prepared in six different ways: broiled, pan fried, cajun, deep fried, lemon pepper and cajun deep fried.

Lockview is located across from the entrance to the Soo Locks, where most of the whitefish was caught in its early days.
The restaurant has come a long way since its start in the mid 19–fourties.

“The former owner, when it first started out, after breakfast was served, he would go out, him and his dishwasher and they’d run across the street to the locks and catch their whitefish for dinner,” Goetz said.
