LANSING — Legislation that makes committing cyber revenge – also known as revenge porn – a criminal act in Michigan has been signed into law.

Governor Rick Snyder signed two bills which make the posting of sexually explicit images on the internet without consent of the person in the image a misdemeanor punishable by up to ninety-three days in jail or a five hundred dollar fine. Bill sponsor Senator Rick Jones (R-Grand Ledge) said that with these new laws, Michigan is taking a stand on behalf of the victims of this act.

The two bills now become Public Acts 89 and 90 of 2016.
