Assault suspect released from jail

HOUGHTON — A Painesdale man is now out of jail after being sentenced today in Houghton County.

Thirty-seven year–old Jeffrey Perala was sentenced in 97th District Court to 17 days time already served and three to 12 months probation for aggravated domestic assault.

Perala pled no contest to the charge in line with a plea agreement that saw a second charge of assault and battery dismissed.

The charges stem from an incident earlier this month outside the Auto Zone store in Houghton, where employees protected a woman from the defendant until police arrived.

Perala was also ordered to continue with mental health and substance abuse treatment and to stay out of the Auto Zone store.
