ESCANABA — If you were driving down 3rd St. in Escanaba early this morning, you may have noticed a long line of vehicles lined up on the street.

Those cars were in line to receive food at the mobile food pantry. Escanaba Public Safety partnered with Feeding America to put on the event.

Officers from the department gave out 10,500 lbs. of food to almost nine hundred people in a little over two hours.

“It gave us an opportunity to give back to the community that’s done so much for everybody,” said Escanaba P.S. Capt. Jamie Segorski. “We serve the citizens here and to have the chance to do a good thing for them is always a nice time for us. We saw smiles; we saw tears, and a lot of thank yous. We think it’s a wise way to spend our dollars that we fundraise for. It gives us the opportunity to help people that need the help.”

Segorski added that they would like to put on this event every year going forward.
