SAULT STE. MARIE — A man was arrested in Sault Ste. Marie on assault and home invasion charges this past weekend.
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office reports that 24-year-old Jameon Cox, originally of Grand Rapids but currently living in Sault Ste. Marie, was arrested on charges of first degree home invasion, assault by strangulation, assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder, domestic assault, and assault and battery, after an incident Sunday evening at a residence on the 6000 block of Mackinac Trail.
Officers were called to that residence around 7:30 p.m. after the alleged victim of an earlier assault by Cox left her home and went there to hide from him. Cox then went to the residence and forced his way in, allegedly assaulting the homeowner and original victim.
Police say the first victim had injuries all over her body from multiple assaults. Those assaults reportedly all involved Cox.
Cox was arraigned in Chippewa County District Court. He is housed in the Chippewa County Correctional Facility.
