HOUGHTON — The Lake Superior Performance Rally is the final event in the 2015 Rally America national championship.

The rally is called the oldest, meanest, toughest rally on the circuit. Most drivers agree that the unpredictable weather has something to do with that. Suburu Rally team driver David Higgins says he prefers the U.P. roads.

Higgins says,”Everyone enjoys the scenery and seeing the fall that you get here is amazing. The roads here are very fast, flowing, probably the most familiar to what we have back home in the UK. So, that’s obviously what I like. It feels like we’re back at home again. It’s just a great, tough rally and one of the old classics from the Rally America championship.”

Higgins and his co-driver, Craig Drew, took first place over-all, completing a perfect season for the team. This is the first perfect season seen in a national U.S. rally since 1987. This is the team’s 5th consecutive Rally America championship win.

Just under 2 minutes behind the Suburu team, taking second place over-all, were local favorites Adam Yeoman and Jordan Schulze from Houghton. Finishing third over-all and first in the Super Production class, Lauchlin O’Sullivan and co-driver Scott Putnam.

The Lake Superior Performance Rally plans to return in Fall 2016.
