Four cars involved in accident at intersection

HOUGHTON — One woman was taken away by ambulance after a four-car accident in Houghton Wednesday afternoon.

Officers from the Houghton Police Department say the crash happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of M-26 and Sharon Avenue. An 86-year-old woman from Chassell who was headed south failed to stop at a red light, colliding with two other vehicles.

Police say those cars were driven by a 19-year-old Howell woman and a 72-year-old woman from Calumet. The third vehicle then collided with a car driven by a 71-year-old Toivola man.

The Chassell woman who failed to stop was transported from the scene by Mercy Ambulance. Police say the accident remains under investigation.
