A man accused of child abuse and torture was back in Marquette County Circuit Court this morning.

Twenty seven year old Nicholas Racine had a motions hearing in front of Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi. The motion to quash binding him over to circuit court and dismiss the case was denied.

The case now heads to trial December first.

Racine was arrested by the Michigan State Police back in June for severely injuring a three-month old infant. The injured baby was flown to the University of Michigan Motts Children’s Hospital where it was treated for multiple rib fractures, hemorrhages, bruises, and bite marks.


NEGAUNEE — A West Branch Township man is in jail on charges of child abuse and torture.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post say 27–year–old Nicholas Racine was arrested after investigation into a case involving the severe injury of a 3–month–old infant. Police say the victim was treated for injuries at the University of Michigan and is now in the care of family.

Racine was arrested without incident and lodged at the Marquette County Jail. He was arraigned on the charges of torture and first degree child abuse Friday.

Racine is scheduled for a probable cause conference on July 7th and a preliminary exam on July 16th.
