National Prescription Take Back Day helps prevent overdose

BARAGA — Many of us have unused prescriptions in their medicine cabinet, but are unaware of the dangers they pose.

Rates of prescription drug abuse are high in the United States, and unused prescriptions are susceptible to misuse, abuse and even overdose. The Baraga County Communities that Care Coalition, Baraga County Sheriff Department, the US Drug Enforcement Administration and several other groups are partnering up to observe National Prescription Take Back Day.

If you have unused, unwanted or expired pills, you can bring them to the Baraga County Sheriff’s Office, Shopko Hometown Pharmacy, or the L’anse Healthmart or the Baraga County Memorial Hospital. Drop of times are between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on September 26th. Please don’t bring liquids, needles or sharps, only pills or patches.
