Huskies Prepare for Season Opener vs. Wayne State
HOUGHTON — This will be the 27th all–time matchup between the Michigan Tech Huskies and Wayne State Warriors, but MTU has won three straight and five of the last six games against Wayne State.
Last year’s game featured a game winning field goal finish for Michigan Tech and they know revenge will be on their opponent’s mind. The team spoke about what they have seen on film that will prepare them for tomorrow’s game.
“Well, they’re a very good football team and very well coached. Paul (Winters) does a great job with them. They’re a football team that was 7–4. I think they’re on a four game winning streak. Got a lot of people back…they’ve got a veteran quarterback which is always key in this league. We think they’re going to be a grateful force. We’re looking for a great football game with them,” Kearly said.
“Our coaches are saying that they’re a lot like us, offensively. So basically throughout this whole camp, we’ve been playing our team and we have to continue to play sound. Looking forward to the game and I’m excited to get at it,” said Agen.
“They got a lot of athletes and we know that they’re going to be good. Especially last year after that last second field goal and the win we had, I know that they’re going to come back up here and they’re going to be ready to play us so that’s kind of been the emphasis this entire early camp is we got to prepare for Wayne because we know they’re a great team and they’re going to come up here and it’s going to be a dog fight,” Cowie said.
Tech is 15–2 in its last 17 conference opening games.
Kickoff at Sherman Field is scheduled for 6 p.m.
