Michigan Tech Football Names 2015 Captains

HOUGHTON, Mich. — The Michigan Tech football team today announced its captains for the 2015 season: Brandon Cowie (West Bend, Wis.),Brett Gervais (Lake Linden, Mich.), Paul Kuoppala (Iron Mountain, Mich.) and Frank Vruwink (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).

Cowie is a junior quarterback for the Huskies. He started all 11 games as a wide receiver a year ago before moving to quarterback during spring practice. The 6-3, 220-pound Cowie earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors in both 2013 and 2014.

Gervais is a senior defensive back who led the team in tackles in 2014 with 67. He posted three interceptions and seven total pass breakups en route to All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. The 5-9, 190-pound Gervais owns 142 career tackles.

Kuoppala, a senior linebacker, earned All-GLIAC Second Team accolades in 2014 after posting 66 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. The 6-2, 245-pound veteran has played in 31 career games with 147 tackles over the last three seasons.

Vruwink is a 6-3, 290-pound offensive lineman. The senior earned All-GLIAC Second Team as a sophomore and First Team as a junior last fall. He has started 31 consecutive games for the Black and Gold dating back to the 2013 campaign.

The four captains will lead Michigan Tech into its first competition of 2015 on Thursday (Sept. 3). The Huskies host Wayne State for a 6 p.m. kickoff at Sherman Field.
