MARQUETTE — A local health system is holding a hiring fair. They even have positions open that do not require experience in health care. ABC 10’s Sarah Mac has more.

UP Health System Marquette held a career fair starting Wednesday afternoon and will continue Wednesday night and Saturday. They are looking to fill various positions including Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses and Care-Aids. Officials from UP Health System Marquette say Care-Aids do not require health-care experience as long as they have a can-do attitude. Director of Human Resources Renee Switalski says the goal is to meet members in the community and set them up for an efficient application and hiring process.

“We have quite a few openings. We’re focusing on care-aides, LPN’s and RN’s, but anybody interested in any position can come in, we would love to meet you,” Switalski added, “Come in check in at the desk, we’ll make sure you are set up in our computer and then you actually have an in-person interview with a director or manager from one of our floors.”

Right now the health system is only interested in filling available positions here at the Marquette location, however if applicants are interested in working at other locations, they’re still welcome to come in and participate for their information to be forwarded on.

One local resident who came to the fair says he would recommend participating and says it was a pretty simple process.

Gladstone Resident Kjell Johnson says, “Typical of any job fair, you know, you sign your name, address, you qualifications, and they call you and they ask you pretty standard questions, you know, ‘Why did you come here, what are you interested in, what’s your background?’ strengths and weaknesses, you know, ‘How do you handle, especially nurses, how do you handle confrontation?'”
