GRAND MARAIS — Local law enforcement and rescue agencies got a bit of extra training Monday in Grand Marais.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 26-12 and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Rangers in exercises to help them practice the rescue of victims from moving vessels. A U.S. Coast Guard flight crew and a rescue swimmer provided rescue harness training.

The experience was part of a joint effort between local agencies to keep their skills up to date. Regular training sessions will continue for Coast Guard Auxiliary members.
