Join ABC 10 / CW 5 for the “Crossfit 906 Challenge”

ISHPEMING — With one gym in Marquette closing its doors, a gym in Ishpeming is ramping up. For the next six weeks you can follow Danielle Davis and Sarah Mac as they get fit with Crossfit 906.

It’s week one of the ABC 10 / CW 5 Crossfit 906 Challenge. Once you download the app, it’s time to get started.

When you walk into Crossfit it doesn’t look like your typical gym. It’s called the box. When you enter the box, it’s no excuses.

“There are no mirrors in a Crossfit gym, it’s a box and the workouts are garage style environments,” said Nichole Asgaard, Crossfit Trainer.

Megan Gauthier adds, “The way that Crossfit is designed, it’s for the unknown, so you don’t know what is going to come up the next day. It changes all the time and that is why it’s fun because you don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Crossfit has what is called ‘on–ramping’. This is six weeks of 22 introductory classes that uses your own body-weight to prepare you for Crossfit. Day one is your baseline.

“We do a baseline and then a post baseline. The baseline determines where the athlete is, their ability and what they can do. We do it to see how we can train them, what their ability is at that point,” adds Nichole.

For my baseline I was able to do a 500 meter row, 40 squats, 20 sit ups, 10 push ups and 10 pull–ups, in just about 6 1/2 minutes. So my challenge will be to beat either my time or increase my strength.

“Definitely more than I expected, I saw results in two weeks of trying it and I fell in love with it. It’s something different, it keeps me motivated, you do different workouts every single day, it’s always different so it keeps you on your feet,” adds Megan.

So no fancy machines for these gals and guys, just good ole fashioned, muscle strength. To join Danielle and Sarah as they get fit, contact Crossfit in Ishpmeing.
