CALUMET — Over 50 wildfires that sprung up in British Columbia over the weekend put people out of their homes or on evacuation alert. Several communities declared states of emergency.

The smoke from these wildfires has slowly made its way across the Northwest, into the Dakotas and Minnesota last night.

An early morning haze was cast over most Northern states and made its way into our area Monday evening and into the early hours on Tuesday.

Smoke will move into portions of the U.P. and linger through much of the morning. This smoke will reduce visibility to as low as two miles at times and create a burning smell.

People with heart of lung disease, older adults, and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.
