Ishpeming students, young and old, reunite at open house

ISHPEMING — Independence Day is a great time to spend time with family and friends, and the Ishpeming High School Alumni Association followed suit.

Friday was the annual Ishpeming High School Open House. Former Ishpeming high school students of all ages came to town to have some donuts and punch… and of course reminisce.

“It’s just, I think, unique to be able to have an opportunity in any fashion to get together with people who share a common love for a school, love for a community. It’s just something you want to celebrate regardless of what class you’re part of,” said Tricia Seelen, the Executive Secretary of the Alumni Association.

“They’re all yoopers and nobody walks around with an importance. They’re all friendly and they talk to each other. It’s a great school and it’s been for many years. I have a button and this button says ‘Excellence for over 120 Years,’ so we’re not exactly a new school!” added Ray Leverton, part of the Class of 1947

The oldest person at the reunion was in her 90’s. The open house is held every year on July 3rd.
