NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — If you just so happened to drive east down US–41 between Negaunee and Marquette Township earlier today, you might have noticed that winter was back– at least for a few hours.

Lincoln the snowman was watching the cars go by for a majority of the day. Three people, including Great Lakes Wood Products co–owner Jim Thompson, constructed Lincoln at 10am. Thompson said that they are able to keep a decent amount of snow from the winter to construct Lincoln by covering it up with many layers of sawdust.

“The snow quality was quite a bit better this year because we took a little more caution when we did it. He’s not melting as fast,” Thompson said. “This is our second year, so I think it may be an annual event. We did it last year during the Polar Vortex.”

Lincoln was expected to stick around until 8pm Thursday until he disappears for the rest of the summer.
