Exploring the U.P. via motorcycle

MARQUETTE — While many hit the road and enjoy this season in mini–vans and RV’s, lots of others can now enjoy the beauty of the U.P. on two wheels.

With the wind in your face and up to a thousand pounds of metal underneath you, you can rent a Harley Davidson.
The most popular bike for U.P. riders looking for a Michigan adventure road trip is the Touring.

“It’s a great opportunity for people who don’t want to own and maintain a motorcycle to just take it out for a weekend. If they are traveling through they can see the beautiful country up here on a motorcycle, they don’t have to drag it up, they can just rent it for the day, return it and carry on with their trip,” said Brian Emigh, Harley Davidson Sales Manager.

Along with rental options they also offer a 3–day class to teach beginners how to ride. And as their way of giving back, veterans get to take the class for free.
There is an extensive list of bikes to choose from as well as learn on And keeping riders safe is a top priority.

“There is the Fat Boy, the Heritage Classic, the Ultra Classics, they have a lot of names but there is really just five families. There is the V Rod, Sportster, Dina, Softtail, and Touring models and kind of the Trike as well. Right now they do offer ABS on a vast majority of their bikes, standard for most and ABS brakes will prevent someone from locking up their brakes in case a deer pops out. It prevents them from skidding the bike and gets them to a very safe comfortable stop,” added Emigh.

Join the Harley staff at their upcoming bike night on Tuesday, July 14th at the Up North Lodge for more information on the riding academy and the daily rentals.
