Snake causes radio station to lose transmitter power

CORNELL — If you live in the southern UP, you’ve probably heard of Kix Country 104.7. Wednesday morning, the station’s transmitter lost power, thanks to a snake.

According to WYKX program director Ed Paulsen, a snake had worked its way around a coil at the transmitter site in Cornell. The coil shortened the transmitter, killing both the snake and the transmitter’s power.

Paulsen says that the engineer at the station was able to get the transmitter up and running in about five hours. As part of his job, the engineer had to remove the snake.
