UPSET drug bust case headed to trial

BARAGA — Another case against one of the suspects in the large drug busts by UPSET detectives last December is headed to trial.

73-year-old Warren Selden joins the other five suspects who were arrested during a December drug bust by detectives of the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. Selden is charged with delivery or manufacture of hydromorphone, a felony that could lead to 20 years in prison and a fine of $25,000.

The Pelkie resident was one of 17 people in total that were arrested. Of those, 55-year-old Brenda Maki, 41-year-old Thomas Bianco, 32-year-old Corey Haataja, 43-year-old Angela Salbashian and 52-year-old Mark Lahti, all have trials scheduled for this summer.

Of the remaining eleven suspects, five are facing federal charges and six are charged in Tribal Court.

The trial for Selden will be held in September and is expected to take two days. Another pretrial will be held in late August.
