Boating at Craig Lake

NESTORIA — Michigan is surrounded by four of the five Great Lakes.

Of course Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Superior and Erie. If you are looking to get away from it all, boating at Craig Lake is a hidden beauty to enjoy the quiet and beauty of the U.P. It is the most remote park in Michigan’s state park system. The place to be for those looking to relax and slow things down a bit.

“Craig Lake is a hidden gem, it’s about 8,500 acres of wilderness where you can do backpacking, canoeing, camping, fishing is good, we have cabins for rent and a yurt, which is an elaborate tent,” said Doug Barry, Supervisor, Craig Lake State Park.

Craig Lake has six full lakes and numerous small ponds. It also offers, camping, with seventeen rustic campground sites, two siges for rustic cabins and two yurts. Hunting and hiking and trapping are also enjoyed at Craig Lake.

“I like to get away from it all, I like to go backpacking but most people like to canoe and camp. It’s not a big round lake, it’s a lake where you can paddle and go around a corner and there is something more to investigate and then around another corner, another island or moose or eagles, so you never know what you are going to see,” continued Barry.
