Finlandia adds three student athletes to its 2015 recruiting class

HANCOCK — Finlandia University baseball adds three players to the 2015-16 recruiting class; Alexander Knapp (Cadillac, Mich.), Jordan Edai (Detroit, Mich.), and Zack Wellman (De Soto, Wisc.) all have deposited and committed to play baseball at Finlandia in 2015-2016.

Knapp played his high school baseball at Pine River High School in Le Roy, Mich. He is a versatile player who can play catcher and second base. In his senior season his batting average was .314 and added 16 RBI’s. “Alex is a player that every program needs,” said Nordstrom. “He can play multiple positions, swings a good bat and is a committed to helping our program develop.”

Knapp will study Psychology at Finlandia in the fall.

Jordan Edai is a 6’6″ pitcher from Detroit Loyala High School. During the past summers he has played travel baseball for the Detroit A’s where he compiled a 9-1 record and averaged 7 strikeouts a start.

“Finlandia baseball is really excited to have Jordan join our pitching staff and add experiece at both starting and relieving,” said Nordstrom.  “He has a very strong work ethic and has a huge upside with his height and body frame.”

Jordan plans to study Nursing at Finlandia.

Zach Wellman will be joining the Lions Baseball program from De Soto, Wisc. Zach is another versatile player that can contribute at third base, second base and pitching. He has helped De Soto High school team to a .500 record by leading them in batting with a .360 average, on base percentage and slugging percentage.

“Zach takes a lot of pride in being a good hitter and a tough out,” said Nordstrom. “He has worked hard over the last year and provides leadership on his high school team. He will do whatever it takes to be successful and help Finlandia baseball achieve success.”

Zach plans on studying Criminal Justice at Finlandia University to eventually become a Game Warden.
