Man arrested after firing gun outside his apartment

COLEMAN, Wisc. — A 32-year-old man from Coleman, Wisconsin was arrested after allegedly firing a shot into the ground outside his apartment building early Sunday morning.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says Marinette County Dispatch received calls around 3:00 a.m. about a male subject outside the building in the Village of Coleman who was armed and had fired a shot. Law enforcement responded to the scene and secured the apartment building from the perimeter.

Upon investigation, police determined that the armed suspect lived at the apartments. He was located and taken into custody without further incident. He was lodged in Marinette County Jail on charges of negligent use of a firearm while intoxicated and disorderly conduct.

Police say the firearm used in the incident was recovered in a wooded area near the apartment building. No injuries were reported, and no one was directly endangered from the round fired into the ground. Police say their investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a nearby bar-closing argument between the suspect, another man and his girlfriend, whom he was arguing with outside the bar. The incident is still under investigation.

The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Coleman, Marinette, and Peshtigo Police, the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office, and Bay Area Medical Center Paramedics.
