MARQUETTE — Snowbound Bookstore in Marquette is one of the 400 bookstores throughout the country that will be participating in the first National Independent Bookstore Day.

Author Joseph Heywood will be coming to the store on Saturday from noon until two p.m. in honor of the event. He will sign books and talk to reading enthusiasts. Heywood comes to the bookstore every year, but his arrival is still eagerly waited.

“He has been a huge champion for independent bookstores, and this store especially,” said Snowbound Bookstore Owner Dana Schulz, “he always makes a point to do a signing every year here, and we really love having him, he’s a lot of fun.”

Many of Heywood’s novels involve DNR officer mysteries that take place right here in the U.P. The store also has raffles and prizes planned throughout the day, along with a few items for truly dedicated readers.

“We have some special limited edition merchandise that we can’t sell until that day, and we can’t re–order it so what we have is what we have.”
