Downtown authority hosts annual poster contest

MARQUETTE — This snowy weather may have some people feeling pretty blue, but one poster contest is looking for the best blueberry artwork in town.

The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is hosting a contest to search for the perfect poster advertisement for the 15th annual Blueberry Festival. The festival is one of many events that takes place in the heart of downtown Marquette during the summer months.

“It’s a really great opportunity to show off your artistic skill and celebrate one thing that this area is known for, which is blueberries. This shows people what a great place we have in downtown Marquette,” said Tara Laase-McKinney, Events and Promotions Coordinator at the Marquette Downtown Development Authority.

The contest runs until May first and entries will be on display for the public to view at the Marquette Arts and Culture Center from May 11 through the 27. Scores will be a combination of public votes and official judge’s scores. The winner will be announced May 29 and will receive $150 in gift certificates from downtown businesses.

The 2015 Blueberry Festival will be held on Friday, July 31. For more official rules regulations, visit the DDA’s website here.
