MARQUETTE — Three people were rescued late Saturday night after their boat became stranded on Lake Superior.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., Marquette County Dispatch officials were notified by the U.S. Coast Guard that a boat carrying three people was stuck in the Upper Harbor near the LS&I Railroad Ore Dock. The three people were fishing when ice trapped their boat.

The Coast Guard and the Marquette County Sheriff’s launched rescue boats, slowly moving through the water by cutting their way through the ice. The stranded boaters were escorted back to to shore. No injuries were reported.
