High school students are putting on a musical based on a biblical story about a boy named Joseph and documents his rise to power.

The production Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a fun, high energy musical that family members of all ages can come and enjoy.

“Well, it’s always been kind of a favorite of mine and some of my students. There’s a children’s chorus in this musical and it adds a lot fun and a lot of energy to the show. But I just thought that this year my students lend themselves well to the characters of the show and I thought it could be very well cast from my student pool,” said Negaunee Public Schools Choral Director.

Work on the production began back in January and for some high school students, this musical gives them a chance to have fun and be a part of something new.

“It’s a lot different than anything we’ve ever done. There’s absolutely no dialogue, it’s all sung. It’s a totally different feel and it’s really fun to watch and it’s really funny and it’s really fun,” said Dana Debretto, Negaunee High School senior.

“I play one of the 11 smaller brothers, Joseph being the main brother. I am Rueben, apparently I am the eldest brother as it goes in the song. Much like all the other brothers, we are all very much annoyed with Joseph. But I do have a solo song where I sort of portray sadness to my father after we had just done a dirty deed. It’s all so fun, you get to see all the hard work and dedication that we have all put in because we have all paid our dues and put in our time. We are ready to put on a great show for everybody,” added senior Marshall Nothelfer.

The show will take place at the Negaunee High School Auditorium at 7:30 pm on March 26, 27 and 28. Tickets will be $5 for students and $10 for adults. You can purchase tickets in advance at the Midtown Bakery downtown Negaunee.
