Motorcycle accident sends Marquette man to the hospital

MARQUETTE — A Marquette man is recovering from his injuries after he hit a car with his motorcycle Wednesday afternoon.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department says the accident happened on County Road 550 in Marquette Township at about 4;30 p.m. Police say Stephen Lemerond, 25, of Marquette had his car stopped on the east shoulder near Harlow Lake Road when he decided to make a U-turn.

He told officers that he didn’t see Kyle Bloch, 23, of Marquette driving a motorcycle on the road. Lemerond turned into Bloch’s path. Bloch tried to swerve away from Lemerond’s car but couldn’t avoid hitting it. He and his motorcycle slid onto the road’s west shoulder after the crash.

Bloch was taken to UP Health System Marquette with non-life-threatening injuries. Deputies say he was wearing a helmet. Lemerond was not hurt. Police gave him a ticket for failure to yield the right of way.

UP Health Systems EMS and the Marquette Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
