WE Energies: UPPCO won’t buy Presque Isle Power Plant

ISHPEMING — ABC 10 has learned today that there are now some changes to the agreement for UPPCO to buy the Presque Isle Power Plant from WE Energies.

Barry McNulty, a spokesperson at WE Energies, tells us that UPPCO now will not buy the Presque Isle Power Plant this summer. WE Energies will continue to own and operate the plant, as well as the electric distribution outlets.

WE Energies and Cliffs Natural Resources have a new five-year contract in place as of today. Cliffs will continue buying its power for the Empire and Tilden Mines from the plant. The new agreement runs through 2020.

McNulty went on to say that WE Energies may help invest in a new power plant for the Upper Peninsula in the future.
