Evaluation ordered for alleged police shooter

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Norway man accused of firing a gun at police in Norway has been ordered to undergo a criminal responsibility evaluation.

Richard Goodreau, 49, had an arraignment scheduled in Dickinson County Circuit Court Tuesday, but he did not enter a plea. Judge Richard Celello ordered the evaluation for Goodreau. The court will hold another arraignment for Goodreau on April 6th, but that won’t happen if the evaluation doesn’t take place by then.

Goodreau is charged with five counts of assault with intent to commit murder. He’s also facing one count each of first–degree criminal sexual conduct, malicious destruction of police property and felony firearms. He was arrested in February after opening fire on state troopers who were trying to serve a warrant.
