February 5th Pasty Central Day in History

Most winters recently have seen above average snow fall all across the U.P., but not so in 1891. The following excerpt is from an article that appeared in the Marquette Daily Mining Journal on this day in 1891…

“Thus far this winter the south shore has had no occasion to use its mammoth snow plow, much to the disgust of numerous persons who have been waiting ever since the company purchased it for a blockade that would put its capacity to the test. It is rather singular that we’ve had a secession of moderate winters since the company procured the ‘Drift Demolisher,’ while for several years previously, it would have found plenty of work to do.”
