Drummond Island man on trial for sexual abuse

SAULT STE. MARIE — A Drummond Island man is on trial in a sexual abuse case involving an alleged victim confined to a wheelchair. The trial for James Shaul, 35, began today in 50th Circuit Court in Sault Ste. Marie.

He’s charged with kidnapping, second-degree criminal sexual conduct, first-degree vulnerable adult abuse, fourth-degree CSC of an incapacitated victim, failure to register as a sex offender and being a sex offender in a school safety zone. Shaul also has ‘habitual offender, fourth offense’ status attached to his case.

His co-defendant, Melissa Greiser, 30, also of Drummond Island, is scheduled to go to trial on February 25th. She’s accused of two counts of first-degree vulnerable adult abuse.

Greiser was a home health care provider for the alleged victim. Shaul was Greiser’s boyfriend.
