MARQUETTE — After placing 4th out of 15 schools at a competition two weeks ago in downstate Adrian, the Northern Michigan University Figure Skating Team will compete the weekend of February 21 at the Maize and Blue Matchup in Ann Arbor.

Taking advantage of a sunny day, NMU junior and club member Emma Trembeull put in several hours’ practice on Thursday at a small ice rink next to the Marquette DPW. The 20–year old has been skating since she was four.

“Well I come from a family that has always been into winter sports like hockey, skiing and figure skating,” said NMU Figure Skating Club member Emma Trembeull. “It’s something that I put my heart into if I am having a bad day or if I am feeling expressive, skating is always a good outlet.”

Trembeull said she enjoys competition and is glad to be figure skating – after participating in another leg of the sport – Ice Dancing that includes a partner and more footwork.
