Local design studio creates treasures for the U.P. and beyond

ISHPEMING — Entrepreneurs often find a way to do what they love most by starting their own business. An art studio in Ishpeming has been accomplishing that for the past seven years.

Revisions Design Studio has been making unique crafts since 2008. The studio, located in the Pioneer Square building, creates ceramic works and other items with connections to days gone by.

“One of the common threads in all of my work is I’m very inspired by the past,” said Michele Dupras, owner of the studio. “So, objects of the past such as old antique glass bottles or old pulleys — things that you don’t necessarily see anymore — I’m really fascinated by the craftsmanship of them, so I really like to incorporate that into my work, to take something old and make it new again.”

Dupras has been selling her creations online since she started the business, and she recently opened a storefront to allow visitors to come and explore what’s available. Additionally, Revisions Design Studio manufactures items for regional sale at national vendors.

“We’re talking anywhere from a run of a hundred to a couple thousand of each item,” Dupras added. “We do a lot of wholesale work. We work with some larger vendors such as West Elm [and] Urban Outfitters.”
