DUNBAR, WIS. — A 7-year-old girl is dead following a structure fire in northern Marinette County, Wisconsin.

Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve says deputies were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. CST Monday to a residence on Collins Ln. off Lilly Lake Road in the Town of Dunbar. The trailer house, along with additions, was filling with smoke and fire.

Three people were in the residence at the time: a father and his two children. The father and his 9-year-old son escaped the fire, but several attempts by the father to find his daughter were unsuccessful.

The victim’s name is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

Investigators believe the fire started near a fireplace and the residence is considered a total loss. The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office, along with Pembine-Dunbar-Beecher Fire and the Marinette County Coroner, are continuing to investigate the incident.

Amberg Fire, Goodman Fire, Wisconsin Public Service, Red Cross, Beacon Ambulance from Iron Mountain, Pembine Rescue Squad, Niagara PD, and Northland Baptist College personnel assisted on scene.
