VAN MEER — A Wisconsin woman was flown to UP Health System Marquette for treatment of injuries after losing control of her snowmobile Tuesday afternoon in Alger County.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Department says Jayne Sue Hayes of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin was traveling northbound on Trail No. 8 near the Bear Trap Restaurant when she became disoriented while attempting to negotiate the trail.  Hayes lost control of the machine, exited the trail, and struck several trees before becoming thrown from the snowmobile.

She was extricated off the trail by the Alger County Rescue 21 Unit and Alger County EMS.  She was transferred to Munising Memorial Hospital and later flown to UP Health System Marquette via Valley Med Flight.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.
