Lady Huskies enter national rankings

LILBURN, Ga. — The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team earned its first national ranking since early last season with a No. 20 position in this week’s Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Poll. The Huskies last ranking was a No. 22 mark  on Nov. 18, 2013.

Tech is 7-0 overall and one of 16 unbeaten teams remaining in the country. The Black and Gold are coming off a pair of GLIAC wins at home last week. The Huskies defeated Findlay on Thursday (Dec. 11) by a 75-60 score before upsetting No. 8 Wayne State on Saturday (Dec. 13) by a 68-55 count.

Michigan Tech has defeated two top-10-ranked teams this year—both at home. It beat No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul 65-54 on Nov. 21 before last Saturday’s win over Wayne.

The 7-0 start is the Huskies’ best since 2009-10, when it opened with 10 straight victories.

Tech is one of three GLIAC teams in the top 25. No. 11 Wayne State and No. 17 Grand Valley State are the others.

Michigan Tech will travel to Minot State (N.D.) this Saturday (Dec. 20) for its final non-conference game of the season and last action of the 2014 calendar year.
