HANCOCK — This week, Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly are working on final preparations for their annual Thanksgiving dinners for members of the elderly in the U.P.

The dinners have been going on for the last 30 years and this year, they will be held at nine different locations, including Saint Christopher’s Catholic Church in Marquette.

Elder Services Coordinator Rebekka Mikkola said it is a great event that brings the community together with the senior citizens.

“There just so happy to have a warm family dinner to come to and see friends that they only see during the holidays at our meals and just have some entertainment and good food. It’s really rewarding to see them just enjoy a good holiday,” she said.

And while preparations are still going on this week, there is still a need for donations and volunteers.  Not only do they need help with serving the dinners at each location, but also for those who cannot make it to the dinner as well.

“One of our biggest needs is always doing deliveries to the home-bound. Those are done throughout all of our different areas so those are deliveries of meals to the home-bound and it’s with a visit and bringing them a flower with their meal,” said Mikkola.

A list of all the locations is available on the Little Brothers’ website.
