NMU’s Hafner makes All-Midwest team

MARQUETTE, Mich. – Northern Michigan University sophomore Paula Hafner has been named to the 2014 Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team announced the organization Monday.

Hafner was named Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and First Team All-GLIAC after leading the league with 14 goals and 31 points in the regular season. She led the Wildcats in goals, points, shots, shots on goal and game winning goals this past season. Hafner also had four multi-goal games.

Her 14 goals was second most in NMU history while her 31 points was third most in program history.

Hafner led NMU to a 7-9-1 overall record, which qualified the Wildcats for their sixth appearance in the GLIAC conference tournament in the past seven years.

Her first goal of the year came in a 2-1 non-conference win over the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. Hafner would go all season without having consecutive games without a goal and went on a five-game streak with at least one goal and a three game streak with two goals scored. Hafner also had four multi-goal games and 10 multi-point games. Hafner also recorded five game-winning goals which ranks second in the GLIAC.

She posted a season-high of five points against Malone in a 4-0 Wildcats win. Hafner scored twice and added an assist for five points.

Along with the other members of the All-Midwest First Team, Hafner will be placed on the ballot for Daktronics All-American voting.
