Huskies blow out Lake Erie in Houghton

HOUGHTON – The Michigan Tech Huskies football team defeated Lake Erie College, 59-14 Saturday afternoon at Sherman Field. It was the Huskies ninth win of the season. It’s just the fourth time in school history that a football team has won at least nine games in a season.

Michigan Tech led 21-7 after the first quarter and never looked back. The Huskies totaled 498 yards of offense. MTU senior quarterback Tyler Scarlett completed 10 of 16 passes for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Brandon Cowie caught two touchdowns in the game.

Charlie Leffingwell finished the day with 145 yards rushing on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Lake Erie running back Anthony Bilal racked up 270 rushing yards on 27 carries, including a 75-yard TD run in the first quarter.

The Huskies finished the regular season 9-1. They will find out tomorrow afternoon if they will make the NCAA Division II Playoffs. The NCAA Division II Selection Show begins at 5 p.m. Sunday on NCAA.com.
