Royales skate for a good cause
MARQUETTE — A Marquette hockey team is doing its part to help the local community this weekend.
The Marquette Royales are hosting a “Veteran’s Night” Friday, where members of the Jacobetti Home for Veterans will be honored after the game, and all active and military members can get into the game free with their ID.
For the team’s game Sunday, they are partnering with St. Vincent de Paul.
“Every year they do a great Christmas giveaway and help all the local families in need, so we’re having everybody bring hat and mittens and we’ll have those tossed on the ice, collected those for them. Also, any donations are also very much appreciative,” Marquette Royales communication relations director Bob Airaudi said.
The Royales try to work with other Marquette County groups volunteering, including Toys for Tots and the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
“We’re trying to develop hockey players for the next level but more than that we’re trying to develop into fine young men and volunteering and serving their community is a big part,” Airaudi said.
The Marquette Royales have games at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. A full list of Royales games can be found on the team’s website.
