HOUGHTON — A special ceremony was held for the newly installed War Memorial Wall, which recognizes those who have died in Vietnam and in recent conflicts, on Michigan Tech’s campus Tuesday.

The wall features names of both Michigan Tech alumni and students who attended the university but did not graduate.  President Glenn Mroz hosted the dedication which added thirteen more names to the original wall that was dedicated in 1952.

Student Veterans Organization President Matt Hargas said the update was a necessary addition.

“Many of our members are combat vets and they’ve lost people in wars so I think it really hits home for quite a few people so it’s very important for us to do things like this, especially when it hasn’t been updated since Vietnam,” he said.

Organizers of the project sent a special thank you to those who donated to the project.

The new names features 12 from the Vietnam War and one who served recently in Afghanistan.
