NMU volleyball ready for stretch run
MARQUETTE – The NMU volleyball team is in the hunt to host a GLIAC playoff game – and they’re doing it mostly with freshmen and sophomores.
The Wildcats made quick work of Michigan Tech Tuesday night, defeating the Huskies in three straight sets in Houghton. The Cats’ 11–3 conference record ties them with Findlay for third in the GLIAC.
NMU is at home for the rest of the regular season. If the Cats play well in their four remaining games, they’ll be in line to start the postseason at home as well.
“We’ve got four matches to really define that a little bit. That was one of our goals (going into the season) to be in the top four (of the conference),” said NMU head coach Dominic Yoder. “We’re in a pretty good position to do that, we just have to compete, one game at a time as we end our season here.”
Wayne State and Saginaw (Valley) are very good teams. With Wayne State, we just don’t know what to expect. Any of those players can really take over a match. Saginaw Valley really is a little bit more predictable. They have two seniors, one on the left side and one in the middle, that have really done a great job for them all year long. We’re really expecting a committed match from both of those teams,” Yoder added.
NMU takes on Wayne State tomorrow at 5 p.m in Vandament Arena.
