HARVEY — For the next month, the Silver Creek Thrift Store in Harvey will be accepting winter weather clothes and distributing them to families and individuals in need.

It’s called Operation Winter Wear and since it’s just beginning the thrift store is in need of donations. Anyone in need of a winter coat, hat, gloves and more can go in and register, writing down what’s needed and in what size.

If Silver Creek Thrift does not have a particular item that’s needed they will get one to you if and when it’s donated.

“As people are looking through their closets and see coats that maybe didn’t get worn, that they bought on clearance, or if you’re looking for an opportunity to give back to the community a little bit, picking up something extra and bringing it down,” Silver Creek Thrift store manager Maria Jensen said. “As soon as we start getting the donations that come in we will be able to make phone calls to the people that have filled out the registration cards and say, ‘We have the sizes that you need and that you’re looking for. Come on down and pick them up.’ Or, we can, as things come in, distribute accordingly.”

The drive runs through November 21st, but if Silver Creek Thrift has a supply of items in need, they will continue to distribute them past that date.

The Silver Creek Thrift Store is located inside the Silver Creek Church in Harvey.
