Mantha leads Wildcats at GLIAC Championship

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Northern Michigan University senior golfer Ayrton Mantha led the Wildcats in the second round of competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Championship at Cherry Blossom Golf Course by shooting a -2 (70) to end the day in 12th place at even par for the two-day event.

The Wildcats are currently in ninth place out of 15 teams after shooting a team score of 296 to finish the day at +15 in the Championship event.

“We have an opportunity to make a run at a very good finish tomorrow,” said NMU head coach Kyle Wittenbach. “We will focus on that first tee shot and go from there.”

Malone leads the competition at -3 while Tiffin is even par in second place.

Senior Ben Johnson shot an even par 72 during the second day to finish in a tie for 17th place. For the two-day event Johnson is +2 at 146.

Sophomore Emil Lundgren also carded an even par 72 on day two, finishing the second day in a tie for 24th place at +3 for the event.

Sophomore Dustin Dishaw shot an 83 on day two and sits in a tie for 56th place while freshman Austin Elsner  carded an 82 on day two and is in a tie for 64th place with his two-day total.

The Wildcats wrap up competition at the GLIAC Championships on Sunday. The split-tee start is set for 8:30 a.m.
