Marquette X-C teams run in downstate meet

PORTAGE, Mich — The Marquette varsity cross country team participated in the Portage Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The meet had more than 8,000 high school runners from across the state participate in the 5-K meet.

Competing against other Class ‘A’ schools, the Redmen finished in 33rd place. Lance Rambo led the Marquette boys with a 49th place finish (16:34), earning medalist honors in the process. Tory Sergei finished with a time of 17:46. Luke Rambo finished right behind Sergey, crossing the finish line at the 17:47 mark. The Redmen finished in 33rd place. Riley Lynch (18:44) & Trevor Slinkard (18:47).

The Redettes had a great showing at the Portage Invite. They finished in sixth place out of 32 teams. Amber Huebner paced Marquette, finishing in 22nd place (19:23). Lindsey Rudden finished six seconds later (19:29) to finish in 28th. Calla Martysz (19:54), Becky McNamee (20:09) & Shayla Huebner (20:29) all competed at the meet for the Redettes.

The Portage Invitational is one of the largest high school cross country meets in Michigan.
