Yoga center housed inside old church to host wellness fair

L’ANSE — Upper Peninsula residents looking live a healthy lifestyle will have an opportunity to meet a number of wellness providers Saturday in L’Anse.

Intention Yoga and Wellness Center is hosting a wellness fair to celebrate the studio’s grand opening.  The yoga studio has been open since May, and thought hosting a wellness fair was a perfect opportunity to collaborate with other businesses that are in a similar business.

“We get to share what we do with all of them and we get to share that they do with the rest of the community too,” Intention Yoga and Wellness Center managing owner Shanel LeRue said.

“There’s going to be quite a few different vendors, we’re going to have anywhere from health and wellness to artistic so we have massage therapists coming, we have a great little place down the road here in L’Anse called the Keweenaw Cairn and they have a little gift shop and they also do pottery on the side, so we’re really excited about having them here.”

Right now, the studio offers beginner and relaxation yoga classes, but LeRue said she is looking to expand into intermediate and chair yoga classes.

The studio is inside an old church.  The church was originally in Pequaming until the building was moved to its current location on Meador Street.

“Every time I rode by this place, I would think ‘that would make a perfect yoga studio. It would make a perfect yoga studio’,” LeRue said. “One day my husband and I were driving by and I said it again and he said, ‘You know what, make them an offer, and if they’ll take it, then we’ll do it’. And here we are, dream come true. It worked.”

The wellness fair runs from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Saturday.

LeRue also said she is looking to hire instructors.  For more information, including class times, prices, and employment information, visit Intention Yoga’s website, iywc.org or its Facebook page by clicking here.
