Marquette area youth prep for ‘The Music Man Jr.’

The growing number of talented youth in the Upper Peninsula has forced the Lake Superior Youth Theatre to add an additional show to its fall line-up.

The Music Man Jr. will be a shortened version of The Music Man, showcasing kids in 8th grade and under.  High school seniors can also participate but as casting directors, choreographers, and in other behind the scenes production roles.

“The show is the classic version of The Music Man, but it’s a junior version which means it’s been shortened a little bit for the ease of the actors and for the ease of the audience,” Lake Superior Youth Theatre executive director Nikke Nason said. “One thing that it’s known for is being one of the first rap songs, ‘Ya Got Trouble in River City’. It’s got a pitter-patter beat to it, and it was actually recently revived at the Tony Awards this year sung by LL Cool J, Hugh Jackman, and T.I., and so it’s an older show but it still stays current today.”

The Music Man Jr. will be showcased at the Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette October 17-18.
