ISHPEMING — The Ishpeming Carnival that took place Thursday, Friday, and Saturday has now been held nine times in 11 years.

It has broken its own record for money raised for charity almost every year that it’s been held.

The carnival raised $5,520 this time, which is down significantly from the last time it took place two years ago.  However, carnival organizer Kurt Kipling says two factors were working against it this year.  The event had always taken place in the springtime until now, and attendance on the first day was also very low because of heavy rain.

Bay Cliff Health Camp and the Ishpeming Firemen’s Association each receive half of the money raised.

The rides and attractions that were in Ishpeming are now in the Grand Rapids area for a carnival there later this week.
