Ishpeming teen arrested in connection with fatal accident
An Ishpeming teenager has been arrested in connection with an accident in June in which two motorcyclists died.
Raymond Michael Anderson, 19, is charged with two counts of ‘moving violation, causing death’. He’s been arraigned in Ishpeming District Court. A pre-trial conference has not been scheduled for him yet. He’s free after posting a $500 bond.
Anderson is charged in connection with an accident that took place on US-41 in Ishpeming on June 5th. The Ishpeming Police say he was driving a Ryder truck and may have turned left from Lakeshore Drive onto the highway in the path of a motorcycle that had the right of way.
Gary Kappler, 64, of Ahmeek was driving the motorcycle and his girlfriend, Diane Palosaari, 52, of Mohawk, was a passenger. They both died at the scene.
‘Moving violation causing death’ is a misdemeanor. If Anderson is convicted, his penalty on each count could be a year in jail, a $2,000 fine or both.
